Hi, I’m Dan
I’m a purple belt who’s been training Brazilian jiu-jitsu for the better part of a decade. I’m not a pro competitor and I don’t play one online — I’m a regular grappler who loves this sport and plans to be doing it for the next thirty years.
I started Jiuoss because most BJJ content is written for 22-year-olds who bounce back overnight. That’s not me anymore, and if you’re reading this, it might not be you either. Somewhere past 35 the game changes: you warm up longer, you pick your rounds, you actually feel the difference between good sleep and bad. The young lions don’t think about recovery. We have to.
So this site is about training smart for the long haul — protecting your joints, recovering faster between sessions, choosing gear that holds up, and keeping the mindset that keeps you on the mats. I test the gear I recommend and I tell you when something isn’t worth it. When I link to a product I may earn a small commission, but the recommendation comes first and the link comes second. Always.
What you’ll find here
Honest, practical guides on training and recovering as an older grappler, plus no-nonsense gear and supplement reviews aimed at longevity. A good place to start is my guide to training BJJ after 40.
